Reading the UB board and it seriously is HILARIOUS how much this win means to them. They despise us. We really are like their Syracuse which is sad for them, because, we ain’t no Syracuse. Even their coach went out of his way to cryptically tweet about Bona. How much are we in their head? Whatever the past present and future bring for Bona, I suppose there’s some level of satisfaction in being so important to these guys that it’s caused all the reaction they’ve given. We despise the fact that your fans have spit on, cursed at, and otherwise been awful to us when our fans visit. And no, you're not "our Syracuse" .... Syracuse is our Syracuse [b Yeah that post was tounge in cheek a bit, mostly because I know it would gnaw at your underlying itch toward bonas for its, in your words, misplaced arrogance. End of the day though - which one of us has gone out of our way to create a username to talk smack on an opposing teams fan board ?

I don't think I've really talked much smack, have I? Bona's a good program that I'm happy to beat..
Someone accused our coach of cheating, someone said he is riding Hurley's coat tails talent wise, and I popped over to say Hi and correct a couple of errors.
If that's not welcome here, well ciao, and see oyu next year.

It’s the “hitting the JUCO ranks hard” that brings question marks. Always will Buffalo was impressive hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhthough. Very talented team this year. Also surprised to see they actually have some fans. That’s nice I was not thrilled when it started but over the years Oats/Hurley have been doing this we have had exactly *1* problem with a JUCO (Moss got caught taking money from a dorm room and was kicked out of school). The rest have been model students and graduated. So until I see something other than "well juco means trouble" I've been sold on Oats and his methods. Juco is the way to go for many non P5 programs. I’d take Harris in a second...

Poyser has been a big disappointment in my opinion, he isn't Matt Mobley, or even close to Matt Mobley, and I think that is the big difference.. We have went from Posley, to Mobley, to Poyser....and it ain't even close folks. Your statement "Poyser has been a big disappointment in my opinion" is down right laughable, especially coming from someone who constantly bashed Jalen in the preseason. I remember you calling Jalen terrible, before he even played a game for the Bonnies. For the record Jalen is leading the team in scoring with 148 points and was the only Bonnie to make the Cayman All Tournament Team. There have been times when Jalen carried this team through difficult stretches. As for your comparison of Jalen and Matt. Last year Matt finished the season shooting 41.8% from the field and 37.2% from 3s. Matt's shooting stats are very similar to Jalen's current shooting at 41.0% from the field and 36.2% from 3s. Something which should not be dismissed is Matt had several teammates to help him on offense. This has not been the case for Jalen. In the last 3 games since Courtney has been back, Jalen made 14 of 30 from the field for 46.6% and 46.2% from 3s. Jalen's shooting percentages have drastically improved with Courtney being back on the team. gobonnies.sbu.edu/sports/m-baskbl/2018-19/files/mbbcombined1819.pdfwww.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/matt-mobley-1/gamelog/2018www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jalen-poyser-1/gamelog/2019

Whatever man. You’re welcome to say whatever you please on here. It’s an open forum, literally.
Oates is a good coach and UB’s program has come a long way the last 5 years. They are a very good team this year and the wish them success the rest of the non conference in building an at large worthy resume so that they still get into the tourney even if something unforeseen happens in MAC tournament play. I thunk they can and will beat at least one of the 2 teams between Syracuse and Marquette.

PY Bonnie- forgive my ignorance but I’m a little confused- are you saying you hope he tears it up in 2019 as in the calendar year/conference play ? Or next season after a redshirt ?

It might sound strange from an 18 point loss, but I come away from the game feeling positive about the Bonnies. First of all UB has a talented and deep team. What impressed me the most was their pressure man defense and I thought it was the biggest factor in the game. Second half the Bonnies seemed to adjust to their pressure and played a lot better. Bonnies actually outscored UB in the 2nd half and UB kept their starters in the game until the last minutes of the game. This game was a great prep for the A-10. Positive from the games. -- Bonnies played some pretty good defense. Holding UB's 2 leading scorers (Massinburg and Perkins) to just a combine 17 points on 4 of 21 shooting from the field is impressive defense. In the last few games the Bonnies have shown they can neutralize the opponent's top player, the problem with UB is they have several solid players. Last night UB proved they are deserving of the 17th ranking. I will be rooting for UB to have a great season. -- Courtney was the MVP of the game. He led the Bonnies in scoring with 18 points. The Bonnies are a lot better team with Courtney. He creates open looks for his teammates. Jalen and Nelson's shooting has dramatically improved since Courtney's return. -- Kyle is a close 2nd for MVP by scoring 15 points, but what really stands out was his 6 assists to 1 turnover. Kyle struggled with his shot, but was really impressive with his drives to the basket, where he either scored or created open looks for his teammates. Kyle played 2 very different halves. He struggled in the 1st half scoring just 4 points on 2 of 8 shooting and he never made it to the foul line showing he was not effective in taking it to the basket. In the 2nd half Kyle scored 11 points and had 3 assists without a turnover. It was Kyle who started the 2nd half run by scoring on 2 consecutive drives to the basket. -- Jalen struggled with his shooting in this game, but he was the Bonnies only other double digit scorer with 10 points on 2 of 8 shooting (making 1 of 2 from 3s). I was pleased to see Jalen taking it to the basket, but UB has a big, physical and athletic team that played solid interior defense. An interesting stat is the +/- stat, which is a great indicator of how well the team is doing when they are on the floor. Of all the starters, Jalen had the best +/- with a -10. -- Nelson's shooting was solid scoring 8 points and making 2 of 5 from the field. Nelson has really improved with his ability to take it to the basket. He had an impressive +/- with a -7. - Amadi played some tough interior defense. With Osun they limited Nick Perkins to just 3 points on 1 of 11 shooting from the field. Amadi was alright offensively scoring 6 points making 3 of 4 from the field. -- Osun played just 7 minutes in the first half. I think Osun should have played more in the 1st half. His presence makes a big difference in the paint where UB outscored the Bonnies by 8, it was even much larger in the 1st half. Osun scored just 3 points (all from the line) but he needs to be recognized for the improved play of the Bonnies in the 2nd half. Osun had 2 blocks in the 2nd half and made it much more difficult for UB to score in the paint. Osun was a big factor in UB's shooting percentage dropping from 50% in the 1st to 40% in the 2nd half. Osun took away the high percentage shots in the paint. Osun is the best example of the importance of the +/- stat. From the box score Amadi had the better stats, but Osun proved to be the more effective player by their run in the 2nd half with Osun on the court, which is reflected in the +/- stat. With Osun on the court UB only outscored Bona by 2 points, but outscored Bona by 16 with Amadi on the court. Osuns +/- of -2 led the Bonnies. gobonnies.sbu.edu/sports/m-baskbl/2018-19/files/SBU_vs._Buffalo.pdf

This game is a good reminder of the difference between whooping teams in the 300s in the NCAA rankings and the team that is 12th. Its a safe bet that we would have performed better with Griffin, Melki, and Welch, but we're not on Buffalo's level this year regardless. Performances against Canisius, Delaware State, and Siena are nice, but this Buffalo team is something entirely different from them. Soon we'll be looking at teams that are somewhere between the bottom 10% and 12th overall and we'll see how we compete with peers.

Following up on Chuck's analysis, from my end zone perspective:
UB was stronger and faster than the Bonnies, which led to steals, loose ball recovery, and good perimeter defense.
I know the fans don't like the high number of foul calls, but at the outset of the game, there was a lot of contact which should be called.
In addition to acknowledging that the Bonnies never quit in the second half when they easily could have, the student sections remained full and loud throughout. Nice job!

Wasn’t sure if I had missed a note about his being redshirted for this year or something. Thanks !

[/p] For the people who don't like what I say, oh well. I'm a St. Bonaventure fan, and always will be. My opinions just are different and not the same as everybody else. I believe when we play guys 40 minutes a game and there are others sitting on the bench not developing this is what happens, and then people say these guys only averaged this amount of minutes even though they are now juniors and seniors, it's call program development, player development....you can only sustain success in a program when people are held accountable. Was it lack of experience last year when LD, or Stockard had great seasons?? Stockard came off 2 foot injuries, and LD averaged less than 10 minutes a game the prior year. Jalen Poyser played 1374 minutes at the Division 1 level before he got here, and to be honest he looks lost against better competition. Is that lack of experience, he has more collegiate minutes than Javon Graves and Montel McRae combined!!
Nelson Kaputo started games 4 years ago, and has been in the system, and last night we had 2 other guys who started both NCAA tourney games last year(Stockard, Ikpeze)....we have more experience than people are realizing, just because we have a stud freshman point guard and center doesn't mean we are that inexperienced....
[/quote] LD averaged 12 mpg in 2017 and in 2018 we returned 3 starters that averaged over 30 mpg. Plus LD, Adams, and Taqqee played together for 4 years. LD and Stockard fitting in and having good seasons was easier with 3 30+ mpg starters returning. The best we could have this year is LD and Stockard, which has yet to happen. By experience, I mean playing together in D1 games. This years team is still learning to play together.

Poyser needs to attack the rim more. It’s an underutilized skill he has. He can drive to the rim and he is an excellent free throw shooter. I know Buffalo was playing good D but he needs that killer mentality

We needed that aggressive approach in the first half of the UB game, but did not get it. He needs to be a major factor to take the pressure off of Stock. Still very disappointed in the 5 spot production this year - even with two 6'10" centers we seem to be taken advantage of in the paint - UB game stats for AI and Osuny were very marginal. Combined they had 9 points and 7 rebounds - thats not going to cut it when playing a team like UB.

You'll have to excuse some of the saltiness because none of the UB posters that have been in this thread bothered to come over here over the last 10 years. There is 1 that I can think of and I havent even seen them post here this season. Then suddenly you all are feeling pretty good and have the stones to open your mouths. The crap I saw on twitter is more was is sticking under my craw right now. My reply was specific to "kevin", who I am sure is a long time UB fan. I do understand that calling a coach a cheater after a loss looks bad but I have been calling Oats a cheater for longer than that. I know how the sausage is made. All that being said, you guys have a great team and I wish success for the rest of the year. A good UB is good for all of us.
