Let's be clear. Buffalo is not a rival. They are just a local program we play some times. They are not a rival program of ours. They are a ranked team that is coming in for a non-conference game. Nothing more. This is ridiculous. They are absolutely a rival and I can't believe anyone feels otherwise.

If the Buffalo series were replaced with another team of a similar caliber, I wouldn't be upset. If the Siena series were replaced with another team from a similar caliber, I would be upset. Because Buffalo is just a series against a team of XYZ ability. Siena is a rivalry game against a team of ABC ability.

Important things to remember about UB:
They are widely considered in recruiting circles to be the dirtiest mid-major program in the country that doesn't involve Rick Stansbury. People forget this.
Bona is 10-2 all time against Buffalo, 6-0 at the RC, and on a four game winning streak.
Jaylen Adams has scored more points in the NBA than every player in the history of the Buffalo men's basketball program combined.
Buffalo has 31,500 students - several of whom are aware that UB plays division 1 basketball.
UB has made the NCAA tourney three times in program history in 2015, 2016, and 2018 via winning the MAC tournament over Northeast Michigan, Michigan County Community College, and South Central Michigan Tech respectively.
In every season Buffalo has made the NCAA tournament, they have lost to Bona including twice in Alumni Arena.
Buffalo has a fantastic team this year and will be coming to Bona with a ton of momentum after a thrilling comeback victory over Lemoyne last night. Should be a great game!

It’s not a historic rivalry but they want to be our rivals. We can decide if they are. Keep beating them and they won’t be

Rivalries, even those born relatively recently, are in the eye of the beholder, I guess. To me, Buffalo is a rivalry and has the potential of being a good one.
As to Siena, I don't mind Bona playing them every year but if you told me they'd never be on the schedule again I wouldn't care a fig -- unless you told me that they were being replaced with Binghamton or Colgate.

Similar to how we want to be a rival with Syracuse! This is a much bigger game than people might think, as to who has Western NY supremacy, If we are from a better conference, with better history, a better coach, then this is a game we should win correct? I can guarantee you none of these kids from either school give a crap about rivalries, it's not Auburn vs Alabama football. These players want to represent their university but ultimately don't care about Big 4 rivalries lol. Buffalo is ripe to be upset by the Bonnies and Stockard will be the best player on the court, but don't disregard the type of program UB has built, we should enjoy the fact that they are a top 25 team, as good as we were last year we never even cracked the top 25.

In the last 18 games that Courtney Stockard has laced them up, St Bonaventure is 17-1. Let that sink in for a second...

Why does everyone continue to bring up our series record against UB? We beat them without Clark last year and Massinburg the year before. Buffalo might be the best team we will play out of conference. I don't care if their wins are over Carnegie Mellon, Houghton and Gannon... They have serious talent and will be a handful Saturday. So we’re just going to ignore the fact that Bona is 7-1 vs UB since 2010? 4 straight wins. Bona beat them by a comfortable margin last year with Jay on one leg. Bona has owned this series. Let’s continue that on Saturday.

The UB game is much more appealing and more of a rival than Siena for so many obvious reasons I don’t know why it has to be mentioned.
1.) Siena is across the state and there aren’t that many Bona alums in the area. Buffalo is our largest alumni base and obviously near by.
2.) A lot of Bona students have friends/ family that went to UB, so that makes it that much more appealing.
There’s a reason why this game is normally played on a weekend and close to a sellout whether it be at UB or Bona. Not too many people care about the Siena series and it shows with the attendance figures.

I think they are a temporary rival. They have been decent the last four years, but I doubt it will last. Oats will leave and they will sink back to SUNY mediocrity. People also seem to forget their record against us is 10-2 and we have won four straight in the series. It is going to be fun Saturday. It is huge for them as when they get into conference play they only will have ok wins and horrible losses.
