I think that the Senator is correct, it was well past midnight. Our RA pounded on the doors yelling "Convocation! UC! Now!". I had no idea what a convocation was. As a wide-eyed 18 year old kid the enormity and stupidity of that action made a profound impact on me. Sadly, 50 years later the people of the world are still burning and destroying to make a point. When will we ever learn.

The 1982-83 recruiting season for Jim O’Brien was filled with big names. O’Brien recruited 2 future NBA players with Olden Polynice and David Popson, along with Tom Sheehey who was a 4 year starter at Virginia. Unlike Popson, Sheehey and Bowen, Polynice was very close to signing with the Bonnies. The key person in O’Brien recruiting Polynice was his newly added administrative assistant Rich Sutter. Following is from attached Olean Times Herald article "Could Sutter’s dream to coach Bona come true?." “Things looked bad for me and my family at that time,” he said. Then one day the phone rang. It was former Connecticut assistant Jim O’Brien, whom Sutter had become close to during summer camps at UConn. Sutter would bring future NBA player and All Hallows product Olden Polynice to those camps. O’Brien had just been named coach at St. Bonaventure. He offered Sutter a scholarship and an administrative assistant position on his staff. I think it is obvious the reason O’Brien added Sutter to his staff was to recruit Olden Polynice. All Hallows High School in the Bronx is the connection between Sutter and Polynice. Sutter was an assistant basketball coach at All Hallows and Polynice played basketball there during high school. bonabandwagon.proboards.com/thread/3021/sutters-dream-coach-bona-comeAnother guy Jimmie O had visit was another future NBA er, MarkJackson who ultimately chose St. John’s. I remember watching Mark shoot baskets in the RC while he was waiting for the coach or his contact to come back. Nice kid, did well.

Our hearts are heavy today as we share news of the passing of Pat Premo, who was a professor of accounting at the university for more than 30 years. If you graduated from the School of Business between 1970 and 2007 you almost certainly knew Pat: In addition to being a founder of the Department of Accounting, he was dedicated to the school’s internship program, which he oversaw throughout his distinguished career. The connections he forged with local, national and international companies continue to benefit our students today. Please keep Pat’s wife, Kathy, in your prayers during this difficult time. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. in the University Chapel. Pat’s obituary is online and available here >> www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/21701852/patrick-m-premo/olean/new-york/casey-halwig-hartle-funeral-home

Prof. Premo WAS the accounting dept at SBU. He was terrific teacher, who had real world experiences he brought to the classroom. His internship program, and his connections in the accounting world, helped so many Bona accounting majors get jobs. As alumni guy said, he had a distinguished career and made St. Bonaventure a better place.

Totally agree with other posters Pat Premo was a fantastic guy-great professor...He was my advisor & mentor and supported me with Bonaventure Business Association including the big Golf Outing that drew all the big firms and afforded students the opportunity to meet potential employers. Professor Premo served the best interests of the students and firms that could hire them...He was never the type of professor to get gummed up in the professor vs administrator drama that was so prevalent in my era at Bona's..... "TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE" and Professor Premo did just that for the school of business & Bonaventure as a whole not just accounting. I am grateful for the opportunity to have had our paths cross...God Bless Professor Premo and his family during this difficult time....“Pax et Bonum”

Along with Ted Woodruff, Pat Premo was easily my favorite prof while in school. He was always helpful, never passed judgement on anyone, and was always available to assist. I had two internships under his supervision, one of which he pushed me into as he knew I may go on to law school. The picture in the attached obit still shows that twinkle in his eye, you just need to add the jet black hair back on top. Alumiguy, is there any method to make an online gift to the Pat Premo Scholarship Fund, or is it just sending a check?

Sad news indeed. Prof. Premo was dedicated to the students and just a terrific person. I never had the opportunity to have him as a teacher, but he gave me the opportunity to be his lab assistant for a time. Rest in peace, Pat.

Rest in Peace - Prof Premo ... He was hands down the best professor I had at St. Bonaventure - and a true asset to the University. He made you respect his course and he made you learn. I recall him being a no nonsense old school teacher who demanded your attendance and effort.
Funny story to share - My sophomore year a classmate had been having a "rough" semester and had missed many of Prof Premo's classes and was failing the course going into the weeks leading up to the FINAL. So he raises his hand in class and asks Prof Premeo - " Mr. Premo, if I ace your final will you pass me for the course" ... Prof Premo, without hesitation, replies ... "No one aces my Final".
RIP PROF PREMO
Alumniguy - Thanks for the Endowment info

This is not a RIP, but the above Prf. Premo post reminds me of a similar one with Dr.Litzinger (English Dept.) As I picked up my blue book final, I noticed the next one with a grade of F. This was followed by Dr. Litzinger's notation which read (in large red letters) as follows; "You not only have failed, but how could you be so stupid as to plagiarize from my own works."

RIP, Professor Premo. One of my favorite profs at SBU and a classy person to boot. Very nice service today for Professor Premo...his son spoke...heartfelt...emotional...and the anecdotes brought more than a few chuckles from those that attended...but the second speaker (I'm sorry...I didn't catch his name...taught business law at Bona's for a year in the early '70s where he met Prof Premo and they had been friends ever since) said something that I thought was indicative of many of the profs way back when: "Premo was very demanding but he had a way with the students that the students knew he cared about them..."
