i think the LANIER,KALBAUGH, MANGHAM class may have been the best. LANIER the greatest player in program history, 3 time all america, number 1 pick in NBA draft, hall of famer. KALBAUGH small (under 6 foot) all america his senior year. great PG and leader and clutch performer. MANGHAM had he stayed in school would probably have been an all east performer. my opinion.

Incredible step for the program. National power? Let’s hit the breaks. Like I said, only time will validate, but I suppose if I had an '08 in my screen name I would be reticent as well.

thank you, hermit, for providing the perspective that only a senior member of this board could provide...those guys (and culminating with the nit championship team in '77) turned potential into performance and has only been seen in exceptional seasons since...so here's hoping this group of potentially fine recruits will turn their potential into performance that will exceed 1 exceptional season and be cause for us to talk about for years to come... The sad thing is that it really should have been the third NCAA tournament bid in 7 years.

The really unfortunate thing with Mangham is I hear he ended Bona recruiting the play grounds of New York City.

Yes, Willie had his problems, but I've never seen any human being before or since who could so blatantly ignore the law of gravity.

I’m just saying Gonzaga has been great for almost decades now and broke free of mid major title and entered the “national power” only a few years ago. We beat out a few major programs for a recruit. It’s incredible but why call it something it is not?

another recruiting year i liked was GANTT, HOFFMAN MILLER, BALDWIN,THOMAS. always wished MILLER could have stayed in school. he was a good big man for the era.
an underrated recruiting class was URZETTA, WATERMAN, ST JOHN,VIGLIANCO. no superstars but 4 solid players for the era. always wished ST JOHN could have stayed in school. he was a decent big who could shoot it. needed to get bigger and stronger though.

Because Bona was a national power back when Gonzaga's only claim to fame was Bing Crosby and the overall quality of this class reminds me of those days. You can't argue with a "feeling." It's subjective.

I have a feeling you are out of touch with current day basketball. LOL. Glad you have feelings. I would not say "National Power" but a "National Name". Most kids up until the last 5-6 years have never even heard of St. Bonaventure. Just because of the generation they grew up in. Their parents may know of St. Bonaventure but the kids do not. Heck some of them are not even familiar with Lanier or they know the name, but not the college he went to. We have a long way to go before we can compare ourselves to Gonzaga when it comes to results and postseason. That being said, as fans it is tough not to get excited about what has happened over the last 45 day with the program. I was not even thought of back when Lanier was at Bonas, but this is the best class I have seen since I was there in the late 90's.

Take a step outside of yourself and imagine that this exact class was going to Dayton. It would still be a very strong class with plenty of promise, but I doubt anyone here would be throwing some of the hyperbolic rhetoric that has been around lately. It is wonderful to be excited, but whoa...

LOL. Glad you have feelings. We have a long way to go before we can compare ourselves to Gonzaga when it comes to results and postseason. should be the goal though. And I will never belittle another man associating us with them because to get where you want to be you use confidence to gain the influence necessary. We are closer to modern-day Gonzaga than we are to the post-scandal Bonaventure days anyway. The proverbial "corner" has been turned. No going back
