We have a long way to go before we can compare ourselves to Gonzaga when it comes to results and postseason. should be the goal though. And I will never belittle another man associating us with them because to get where you want to be you use confidence to gain the influence necessary. We are closer to modern-day Gonzaga than we are to the post-scandal Bonaventure days anyway. The proverbial "corner" has been turned. No going back Agreed wholeheartedly. They should be the benchmark of what we want the program to be only I think we have better head start because of the conference we are in.

When did SBU get transfer players from major programs: Mount St Mary’s/UNLV A center who had offers from Georgetown and SYRACUSE, And the leading scorer in Western NY.
This is a major recruiting class that will pay dividends to SBU.
Now for the downside: Quality players often generate an increase in players transferring out of the program. Hoping that these transfers and newcomers remain academically sound.
I am excited for this new incoming class and transfers!
Great job Coach Schmidt!
A University will attract quality athletes regardless of its location with a stable program and coaching staff, Several winning seasons and post season play, a quality conference, and most of all an opportunity to play and have an impact.

Agree. Back in the 1960s SBU had the reputation as "the Notre Dame of the East" referencing SBU's awesome sports prowess and superior academics. We are back on the road headed in a similar direction. Maybe not Notre Dame but certainly at levels like Gonzaga and Villanova.

Mount St. Mary's? major program? I'm gonna jump in the car this afternoon and drive up to Emmitsburg and find out what I've been missing.

He broke the Bandwagon’s collective brain. Some of these comments are INSANE.

I am just as excited as most everyone, but come on now. All due respect, but as we sit here today our name and Villanova should not be in the same sentence unless we are talking about playing each other.
Let's not go too far over the top. Great recruiting class on paper, but we are not even close on the basketball highway to Gonzaga yet. As for Villanova, they aren't even on the map.
I love what we have done, but to start to compare us to Gonzaga and other top tier P5 schools is a stretch even for this homer. Gonzaga is a great benchmark of where we want to go, but let's not think we are there now.

Very pretty country, but I did not find a major program. I did find a D-1 program, however. Curiously though, I did not find a statue of the former president who took them into D-1. I forget his name but he was really into John Milton. Some of you guys might have even run into him.

I think most of us have a feeling that this will end up being a great recruiting class when we look back on it. Mainly because of Schmidt’s ability to find late bloomers or diamonds in the rough and his ability to develop them and the whole team. Plus some of the comments on most of this class from outside sources is that so and so was undervalued and we got a steal.
On paper what’s our best recruit a 3 out of 5 stars. We beat out UMass and Manhattan for Lofton. UB and UMass for Welch, Townson and UTEP for Alpha, CSFulerton and Canisius for Melki, and we all know who we beat out for Osun. Welch is a 3 star and the rest are 2. On paper we are lucky if this is top half of A10. St joes, St. Louis, Dayton, URI, UMass and maybe more all have a 4 star recruit this year. Hell our recruiting class last year had a 4 and a 3 star. So on paper last year was better.
In the end this is a good class with the potential to be great. Based on what we have seen, heard, and read, some of this class will outperform their rating. So the question now is, will they turn out to be 3, 4, or 5 star players. We had some of this excitement with Adams a few years back and he turned out to be a bust, good thing we had a backup Adams that was a major surprise.

This is our best recruiting class in a long time, no doubt. And it slowly came together. For fun, go read the Syracuse fan forum. Spoiler alert “no excuse to ever lose him to SBU”😩

Res,
I stand corrected on a “Major” program even though Mount St Mary’s has seen 2 more NCAA D1 Tourneys than us in the past 30 years.
Thanks for calling it out.
