I have to believe that our squad is very aware of the benefit attached to being #1 or #2, namely the double bye. A lot of concerns about our short rotation and thin bench would become minor points if the path to the championship game is two vs three games. The next two weeks will determine a lot and this week is going to be a good test. Going 2-0 would be exceptional but 1-1 would keep us in the mix. I'm not even looking at 0-2 as an outcome as I think we are the real deal, whether we get into the Top 25 or not. Staying positive!

Every week from here on will be loaded with critical games - here are this week’s critical games IMO, (at least for now). I am surprised to see that one way or another, the league hasn’t squeezed in more games for St. Louis, which really needs games. I saw on a Richmond paper that the league has been holding meetings with school ADs to come up with a formula for seeding when there are an uneven number of games played by members. One of the stated goals was to get everyone to a set minimum number of games required by the NCAA to qualify for its tournament, which I think is 10, (maybe 12?) The plan was supposed to be announced “soon”, but I haven’t seen anything announced yet. Anyway, here’s this week, which is going to tell us a lot about Davidson in particular: Monday - none Tuesday- LaSalle at the RC on ESPN+ VCU at Dayton on CBSSN Wednesday - Davidson at VCU on plus URI at SLU on CBSSN Thursday - nothing Friday - Bonas at VCU Saturday - URI at Davidson on plus Sunday - Nothing - BTW, our game at UMASS for Sunday is listed as “cancelled” instead of “postponed.”

Fjs - not sure how I left that off, but thanks for pointing out the omission. I edited to include it.

Assuming that in rescheduling games going forward the league will prioritize gettin each team a minimum number of games. or at least as close as possible thereto, I thought it would also be handy to list the total number of games played by each team, plus a list of teams currently on pause, So FWIW, here goes:
GW - 5 St. Louis - 7 Richmond - 7 Davidson - 8 UMass - 8 St. Joe - 9 VCU - 11 Bonas - 11 Duquesne - 11 G. Mason - 11 Dayton - 14 Fordham - 13 LaSalle - 14 URI- 15
Teams currently on pause: Duquesne UMass Fordham

Surprised to see our game with GWU moved from Sunday as the Colonials are now alone in the league with only 5 games played, unless they were placed on pause, w,hich they are not, as I see they now get Rhody at home Sunday morning.
VCU at Richmond tonight at 7 on CBSSN should be interesting. Somebody's going to join us at 3 league losses.

So who to pull for tonight in the SLU-Dayton game? It would be nice to have SLU with three losses while with four fewer wins and virtually no opportunity to catch up. On the other hand, Dayton at 7-7 would likely be out of the double bye picture. Hmmm, any chance both could lose? Personally I am pulling for Dayton to reduce SLU to one game above .500, as I think it’s likely they will still manage to get above the minimum number, and if they don’t, another loss wilL drop their NET significantly.

I want SLU to win. Dayton is far enough down in losses not to worry about, especially if they lose tonight. I'd prefer SLUs only loss from here on out is to us in the A10 tourney so we both make NCAAs. But so far Dayton is owning SLU on Senior night.

SLU's league record took a hit tonight, but so did their "eye test"' which has kept them afloat all year long. Maybe they will no longer be the media darling they seem to have been all year.

Ending the season with home to Davidson, at Davidson, and home to Dayton, all within a week, is a helluva challenge. Our players’ conditioning will be key to our results, but it’s good we will then have some time to rest before the tournament. I think at worst, we’ll still have at least a single bye, but I am still hopeful for the double bye, as I presume the other candidates also have end-of-year schedule challenges. Should be fun to watch, or at least interesting.

Davidson is poised to grab the #2 spot if the Bonnies falter. A lot on the line the next 3 games.
