Since we're on the subject of transfer portal, have any Bona ladies flown the coop?

Why should anyone be surprised. Schmidt's style of not playing his bench is coming home to roost. He better hope he corales some good recruits in the next year or two or else we're going to be in big trouble. You could see this coming since December with the way he was using his bench. I think it's why we have no success in the tournment the last 2 times - our guys are spent and hve no spark. The Florida & LSU games were terrible to watch.
If he doesn't learn from this we're going to see this program suffer big time. Kids aren't dumb and they're seeing what's happening. We should be excited for next year and now we're in huge trouble just trying to fill out a roster. Not good!

If ST. BONAVENTURE & Cincinnati's mens basketball teams combined scholarship players, they would have exactly enough to scrimmage 5 on 5.

Transfers have been skyrocketing for several years now. Kids transfer for a wide variety of reasons but the main one is and always has been self-induced delusions of grandeur. Yet everyone is convinced it is because Schmidt doesn't use his bench enough. The Bonnies will restock. The Bonnies will be fine next year. The Bonnies will be back in the dance in '22.

Deja bolting no shock. She disappeared from the radar late in the season. Did not compete in their one-and-done A10 tourney game.

Lets relax Coach w most wins in history and a veteran group of asst coaches we will be better Example,Big O left WVU in mid season to go hang out in Kentucky and the EERS were a better team after that. Vasquez was my favorite player but i wish him happiness in his venture also Shaw Now we can go find a sharp shooting corner shooter G/SF and some beef in the middle and at the 4 position.Hang in there because i think and hope we will be sitting there next year in person at the RC

The NCAA as a whole and the various conferences and schools are scared to death of the movement to pay players. You think the power schools have an advantage now, imagine what it will be like if money is directly involved. With legislators talking about enacting laws requiring payment, the NCAA is holding on for dear life and wants to rid itself of anything resembling indentured servitude, hoping that will hold off the legislation. Still it may be too little too late and the game may soon be FUBAR as they said in WWII. In the meantime, it’s just going to be an unrecognizable mess. Oddly however, we may actually be in a better position then most schools if, as we hope and believe, we have a core group of 5 that are committed to staying together for another run next year. Not too many schools may have that right now and many face numerous key defections. Just look at what’s already happening in the A-10 - I’ve already lost track.

Essentially, if you don’t start now - you transfer in college basketball. I notice that there is little discussion of the 1000 in the portal, or ours, how transferring will effect degree progress. It's the old Garry Templeton axiom: "If I ain't startin', I am departin'."

Would’ve loved to see what Vasquez could do with 20+ mpg.
Best wishes to him. He could be an electric scorer in the MAAC or NEC.

AJ was always a favorite of mine. The first time I saw him play was on TV, as a member of the Puerto Rican U16 team. I was impressed, a hard nosed kid who shot well, played tough, a hard nosed NY kid. I remember thinking, could we ever kid a kid like this. Well, go forward a year or two, I am in Brooklyn, walking outside of the Barclays with 2 others, go around a corner and literally bump into these 2 kids, Justin Winston and Alejandro Vasquez, my friend immediately says AJ, recognizing him. Justin had already committed to Bona's, AJ was soon to be a Bonnie. Now, both are gone, sad to lose them. I will say this, that AJ's performance vs LSU, makes the loss of him a bit easier, as you know he did not play well at all in that game, and at another level, he may be the star I thought he would be..

pjs64, I can't tell you how many times I've thought of that story you tell about meeting Justin and AJ in Brooklyn. To this day I kick myself for not making it out there for that run. Hands down, AJ was my favorite. I made it out to the 100 years of Bona hoops/Final four team celebration and two people that I had hoped to greet were AJ and Dr DePerro. I realize this moving and shifting is where we are right now. I'm delusional in thinking that these guys won't leave my beloved Bonas, well they do and they will, but that doesn't make it any easier. With all that happened in the course of just the last month alone, it's been heartbreak, a celebration, that still resonates in this year suspended animation. LSu felt like a thud, but step back, we got there. Agree that a strong core is in place, it's going to be a real challenge to find guys that want to contribute and can contribute, but just as we did throughout this year, we have to believe that our staff will do everything they can to continue to build this team. Yes, it might be wishful thinking, but that's where it all starts, believing that we can. Best of luck AJ, and likewise Jalen Shaw. Excited about tommoro and the days ahead. Go Bonnies.

He always provided a spark, but looked for his shot frequently. When he drove and dished or was hot with the 3s was when he was at his best. However, he was lazy with his perimeter passing and turned it over too much. Still, sorry to see him go.

I felt he was making strides towards the end of the season and was looking forward to what he potentially could be. But we were already looking at a huge problem following next year with the way our roster is and this makes it even worse. I don't expect the guys to take advantage of the extra year and we are looking at a quick down turn unfortunately. We better enjoy next year because who knows what the future holds after that. Hopefully we can find another freshman class to lead us the way this one did and I trust out staff but I have my concerns

Best of luck to AJ and all of the other players that have left the program including assistant coaches. Questions? Over the last four years I have lost count on ALL of the players ( and Assistant Coaches ) that have bolted from the Team. WHY? If the Future recruit or Parents are doing their due diligence on Bonas, would all of the known departure from the Team make an impact on their decision to attend? SO - just let the Coach - coach or 2024 Thank God for Alpha Okoli
