nothing like recruiting info to get the juices flowing. While so much of the stuff on line requires paid access, I did find this blurb in the Chicago hs hoops coverage on Daniel Johnson Daniel Johnson, Young Whitney Young is loaded. AJ Casey is the heralded senior prospect with high-major offers and a nationally ranking. Xavier Amos is the promising 6-7 senior who is gaining traction. And Dalen Davis is the prized junior point guard with high-major offers and interest. Then there is Daniel Johnson, the 6-5 junior with very little fanfare. But time and time again, whether it’s been as a freshman at Fenwick, his time at Young since transferring there as a sophomore or with Meanstreets, Johnson showcases his vast potential. Johnson’s steady progression is going to ultimately push the 6-5 forward into top 10 consideration in the Class of 2023 before it’s all said and done. He is blessed with some stretch-the-floor shooting ability and a physical profile that adds to his value. If Johnson can steady his handle and become a threat off the dribble, the stock will climb even more. These comments were from Daniel's junior year. I thought I wold throw in a video clip for good measure. Daniel is #11 www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjRDvTdenuo

Personally, I like the idea a lot if BROWN is used at the 4. This is the type of player the BONNIES have been missing since MARQUISE SIMMONS graduated. BTW, since there are no seniors on the team, and no ships available, yet the staff continues to offer, who is leaving?

i agree, we need a TRUE 4 man to move forward. someone who can shoot it, rebound it, and defend down low. the one thing about BROWN i dont like is 35% from the ft line. ouch.

BTW, since there are no seniors on the team, and no ships available, yet the staff continues to offer, who is leaving? After last year, I'm sure Schmidt is getting prepared for players leaving. I doubt any player would announce NOW to Schmidt they are planning to leave. Announcement like this would put them deep on the bench.

i agree, we need a TRUE 4 man to move forward. someone who can shoot it, rebound it, and defend down low. Tyson Brown would help next year, but we need the above desperately this season. Currently we have 6'6" Yann at PF. He can rebound and shoot it, but can't play interior offense or defense. Barry and Aquan also lack interior offensive and defensive skills. Schmidt has just Chad that is able to score with his back to the basket and defend in the paint. Did not anticipate interior play would be such a big weakness with Bona having 6 players, who are 6'8" or taller. I swear every time Schmidt puts Anouar in the game, it raises a big red flag for the opposing team. They start feeding it inside to their big man. Anouar would be a lot better at PF. Max has the height and body (6'10" 250 pounds) to play better defense against the opponents big.

As we all know, the recruiting landscape has dramatically changed. If we are going to be competitive next year, we need impact transfers, not high school or prep school kids. That's just the way it is. Fordham's two best players, Quisenberry and Moore, are transfers. VCU, the best team in the A-10, is loaded with transfers, including two kids from Michigan and one of the best three point shooters in the nation in David Shriver, who was Moses Flowers teammate at Hartford last year. Look at Iowa St, who went 2-22 (0-18 in conference) two years ago and now they are a top ten team. Totally built with transfers as we know. Freshman can compliment a team. But you win with experienced and talented transfers I think. Of course the NIL will be problematic for us.

Bub, great points. In the last decade we could get an impact transfer every couple of years — guys who were perfect fits after their sit-out year. Mosley, Stockard, Posley, Adaway etc. These were mature, hard-working, talented players who saw the benefit of joining a solid mid-major program with a staff that develops players and has a chance at an NCAA appearance.
We did have a few surprising busts in the transfer market (Poyser, Planutis, Quadry) … and we lost a ton of marginal players who would most likely never help us. Brockington, Coburn, Linton Brown and possibly Coulibaly as exceptions. I personally thought Planutis could have helped us off the bench in the right role.
Today it is a totally different landscape. What under-the-radar transfer is going to consider Bonas when there are better NIL opportunities in the A10 and at other programs? The answer is the type of players we landed this year: Luc, Moses, Venning, Hill etc. These players would have been excellent reserves to our starters the last 5 or 6 years — and possibly develop into stars in their second, third and fourth years. Banks I could see being a All-A10 player, especially with a roster of proven guys.
Bringing in one or two of these transfers a year to augment a veteran core is one thing. Having them BE the core is too much to ask.
I can see a few of these guys hitting the portal again if this season continues to go south. That sit-out year for transfers was so valuable for the right player for us. It allowed them to get bigger, stronger, mentally tough and learn the Schmidt system. Those are things most of current transfers desperately need.
I feel for our coaching staff and fear for our program’s future.

Planutis had plenty of opportunities but somehow he didn't understand the baseline was out of bounds and all of a sudden couldn't hit a jumper. He was a junior i believe and if he got the ball near baseliine he stepped out- how does someone play the game that long and still continuously step out of bounds?

With the 3 point arc so close to the sidelines you see it often happen to trey point shooters.
But 3 times in half a game is over the top. I remember his step outs mainly on the sidelines.
Bobby "Buckets" struggled with the Bonnies.

this may be wishful thinking abut I haven't heard anything about Melian Martinez. Someone noted that the was red shirting, but what is usually the case, no one seems to know for sure. He is a 6'10", in the team picture he looks to have an inch on Chard, or 6'11" guy with some athleticism and I think some real shot blocking ability. Maybe Melian is indeed red shirting to get stronger and adapt to the D1 college game. Just wondering if any has seen Melian in practice and can tell us anything. Early on the red shirt thing seemed to make sense with the rotation we've got, but we clearly need a guy that can protect the rim. Fingers still crossed that Melian is in our future plans. I could see someone like the afore mentioned TYSON BROWN, he sounds like a legit PF, but I still think we need a big who can give us some shot blocking. I tend to agree with another poster who said play Mellouk at the 4, but Coach doesn't seem to have to much confidence in Max. I realize it maybe situational, but I believe like most of the posters here that getting a couple of bigs , one of them maybe playing for us already, Martinez, and another big who is ready to play "right out of the box" is how we should proceed. w

He is very athletic. As coach has said……..”runs the floor better than any big I’ve had”. I have said that he had the highest upside of any player on the team. It seems he will be redshirted. That being said, he is very young He may need more than another year to be ready for th A 10. I hope he stays and gets to realize his potential.

Martinez is a redshirt. It is in the game notes every game. I love his engagement on the bench and I think the future is bright for him with a year in the weight room
