Pleasantly surprised. I thought maybe Lovings-Watts was more likely. Initially I felt different after their visit to Bona, I was hoping for Will Loving-Watts committing to Bona. — As a sophomore Will was a 4 star ranked at #76 by 247 Sports and ranked 4th top player in Indiana. Made Rivals Top 150, ranked at 147. — After his sophomore year Will struggled with his shot during the summer with his AAU team Indiana Elite. Suddenly 247 and Rivals dropped Will’s ranking. Now Power 6 schools were not interested. Will also shot just 29% from 3s during his sophomore year. — As a junior Will shot 48% from 3s, but it was too late as the damage was already done. Will appeared to me as a 4 star recruit, who finally discovered a solid jump shot. In contrast Miles Rose was a player I knew sat the bench at Putnam last year. Started to feel differently after reading Putnam’s coach Tom Espinosa comments “shoots the ball unbelievably. Miles should be our starting point guard.” Another is the realization Miles is young as he played AAU basketball this summer for U17. This helps to explain why Miles seldom saw the court the last 2 years at Putnam. He was a 15, 16 year old competing against players, who already graduated from high school. With Miles impressive performance this summer in AAU Tournament and Espinosa’s comments I am now looking forward to Miles and Will’s performance at Putnam. Hopefully Miles is the star for Putnam like Osun, Kyle and Barry. Unfurl has “Rose has been described as a long, physical guard who can create off the dribble, shoot from long range and defend multiple positions on the wing." This sounds like a description of Kyle Lofton, with the added benefit of "shoot from long range." Miles looks like a solid addition. Looking forward to following Miles at Putnam this year.

I have not seen an official announcement but assuming it is forthcoming I want to welcome Miles to the Bonnie family!

Excellent opening '23 class signing. WNY roots (Kearney) plus 3 years at the Putnam Pipeline. Welcome, Miles Rose.

The number 1 point guard for the number 1 private school in the country is pretty darn good addition. He shoots extremely well, blows past defenders is highly competitive and a great kid according to Putnam staff. A big guard with an extended reach is an A+ get for my money.Excited to see this team play up tempo and obliterate the 9 or 10 teams that are rated above us. Really fun to be the new hunter!!

So here’s the question moving forward. We currently have 12 of the 13 available scholarships filled, the 13th roster spot filled with a walk-on. So there’s a spot on next year’s roster guaranteed for Rose. While it is likely someone will transfer out, that is not a certainty. What is a certainty is that there are no seniors on the roster. So it is at least possible that all spots on next year’s roster are already filled. My question is - how does the staff continue to recruit? Can the staff make formal offers if there are no more ‘ships available until and unless someone announces he will transfer and enters the portal? Do we just continue to sell the school to prospects while telling them they’ll be our first choice if and when a spot opens? If so, doesn’t that put us at a disadvantage when other schools can be more definite about offering a ‘ship? Won’t other coaches also recruiting a particular player point out that we have no more ‘ships available and that any offer we have made is tentative only? It has to be a challenge to the staff to remain involved in any potential recruits going forward.

Maybe knowing one spot ...Rose accepted before Loving-Watts could.

Curious...on October 21, IFE INGRAM, a 6-6 SG from Wyncote, PA, posted on Twitter his final 3 schools are RIDER, QUINNIPIAC, & ST. BONAVENTURE. Also, if the BONA staff anticipate anymore openings, wonder if they might be looking at the soon to happen Fire Sale that will be hitting MANHATTAN.

Is there anything published or reasons for termination. A couple of weeks before the season starts is a very odd time to fire a coach. Exceedingly bad for the players. Did he not have a problem a few years back, where he left, then came back. I don't remember the backstory, but there was something in the past that was not favorable.

He did not have a degree but apparently said he did on his resume He was given a chance to complete the necessary courses and did so
This time he was not able to extend his expiring contract He tried to go over the AD’s head to the Pres He gambled and lost although it sounds like Manhattan and it’s AD may have damaged their program

Manhattan’s ADs statement is a head scratcher “Coach Masiello's contract ending in April 2023 -- we determined that it was the right time to begin rebuilding from the top down." Less than 2 weeks before start of season, AD decides it is the right time to rebuild? And rebuild a team selected second in the conference's preseason coaches poll? Attached article “sources told CBS Sports that a fractured relationship with Jaspers athletic director Marianne Reilly played a major factor.” Manhattan’s Jose Perez is a very interesting player, who has already entered the the transfer portal. Averaging 18.8 ppg Jose was the leading scorer of Putnam’s National Prep Championship team which had Osun, Kyle and Akok. Last year Jose led Manhattan in scoring averaging 18.9 ppg and was selected to MAAC’s 1st team. Jose was also selected as MAAC’s preseason player of the year. www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-coaching-hot-seat-five-coaches-who-may-need-a-good-season-in-2022-23-to-save-their-job/gojaspers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/jose-perez/8603
