Time to move on.
I've seen Rhody play a couple of times this year and I just watched the La Salle 75-73 victory over the Rams yesterday at Gola Arena. Rhode is 5-10 overall and 1-2 in league play. They have a decent schedule having gone up against Kansas State and Providence. They played four guys 30+ minutes against the Explorers. Ismael Leggett, 6'3" shooting guard is their leading scorer and assist man, Ismael is avg 15 ppg, behind him is Brayon Freeman, the PG/GW transfer, 6'2" is averaging 13 ppg, the other starters are Jalen Carey, 6'3", who averages just under 10 ppg and Malik Martin at 6'6" and avg 8ppg. Their inside presence, is 6'8" 210 red shirt freshman Abdpu Samb, they have 10 guys averaging 10 min or more per game. In the La Salle game, 6'5" freshman Brandon Westonplayed 17 minutes yesterday and scored nine pts, Rory Stewart, a 6'8" 230 freshman from London, England played 13 minutes but did not score, Sebastian Thomas, a 6'1" sop, also played 28 minutes. The Rams seemed to play pretty good defense, Carey and Leggett, were there leading rebounders yesterday at 11 boards a piece. Their offensive rebounding seemed to keep them in the game yesterday. The Rams pretty much follow the pattern, shoot the three well and they can be competitive. What we saw yesterday where all the A10 home teams won, is something I think we're going to see a lot of. Having to play Rhody at home will just be that much more of a challenge. Coming off the St Lous game, I'm interested to see how the Bonnies come out.

Easier said than done. Bona has had all sorts of fits at URI over the years, and this season's road struggles does not inspire confidence.
I would like to be pleasantly shocked.

ST. BONAVENTURE (8-8, 2-1 A-10) at RHODE ISLAND (5-10, 1-2) Wednesday, Jan. 11 - 7:00 p.m. Kingston, R.I. TV: ESPN+
OPENING TIP NOTES St. Bonaventure's young team enters this week still searching for an answer to the road riddle, having posted a 7-1 record on home court, but just 1-7 away from home including an 0-5 mark in true road games.
When the Bonnies are home, they average over 72 points per game and hold opponents to 62. When they grab the suitcases, though, they average just 63 ppg while allowing 71. The Bonnies had their eighth 2-0 start to A-10 play in program history following home wins over UMass and George Mason last week before a loss at Saint Louis this past weekend. The Saint Louis game was the first time this season that the Bonnies have not at least been within one possession at some point during the second half, never getting closer than nine after intermission. Bona has held a second half lead in five of its eight losses this season.
Chad Venning scored a career-high 23 points at Saint Louis on 10-of-12 shooting. He scored 15 points after halftime and went 6-for-6 from the floor during the second half.
Moses Flowers continues his recent breakout, posting a season-best 15 points in Saturday's game at SLU. Flowers has been extremely important as the team's sixth man as of late, with his 12.0 ppg in his first three A-10 games behind only Daryl Banks III (19.7 ppg) in the team's conference scoring. Venning gives the Bonnies a third player in double figures thus far in conference play (11.7 ppg). Banks was held to one point in Saturday's loss, his first quiet day in a Bonnies uniform. The Saint Peter's transfer had scored double figures in 14 of the season's first 15 games and averaged 29.0 ppg in the first two A-10 games.
Bonnies freshman and three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Yann Farell (9.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg) looks to bounce back from an off week. His six combined points against George Mason and Saint Louis represent his lowest back-to-back point output of his Bona career after three straight double-figure scoring games prior to that.
BONA BITES Banks has scored in double figures in 14 of 16 games in a Bonnies uniform. In 105 career games, he has posted double-figure scoring 59 times but had never hit 30 points in a game prior to this year, a feat he's now accomplished twice. Despite being held to just a point at SLU and seeing his season scoring average drop from 17.4 ppg to 16.4 ppg, Banks continues to rank seventh in A-10 scoring.
Moses Flowers continues to see his role in the Bonnies lineup grow. Since his first double-digit scoring output with the program at Buffalo Dec. 3, his seventh game overall to that point, Flowers has averaged 9.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 53% from the floor in 25 minutes per game (nine contests) in the past month. Chad Venning's 55.8% field goal percentage ranks eighth in the A-10.
Venning is also sixth in the A-10 in blocks (23). Kyrell Luc ranks tied for fourth among all A-10 players in steals this year at just under two per game. Both of Bona's two A-10 wins thus far came against teams picked to finish ahead of them in the preseason poll - George Mason was picked fifth while UMass was slotted eighth. Rhode Island, meanwhile, was picked one spot ahead of SBU in ninth.
The Bonnies did not have a single block in Saturday's game at SLU, the first time Bona has not had a block in a game since Jan. 26, 2022 at George Mason. St. Bonaventure has been outscored 241-173 at the foul line this year while opponents have taken nearly 100 more foul shots than SBU (343-251). Saint Louis finished with 10 3-pointers last Saturday, becoming just the second SBU opponent this season to hit 10 threes in a game and the first to do it in regulation.

Rhode Island defense is a lot better than their offense. Defensively they are slightly better than average with FG% and 3 point %, while scoring is slightly higher allowing an average of 69.7 ppg. Defense is alright, but Rhode Island’s offense is a disaster. Following offensive stats are among the worse in the nation; FG% (344th rank) FG% inside arc (344) 3 Point % (326) and scoring (295). Rhode Island attempts a lot more 2 point shots than 3s. Rhode Island lost their 3 leading scorers and only double digit scorers. Leading scorers are 6’2” Leggett (15.5 ppg) and 6’2” Freeman (13.9 ppg). 3rd leading scorer 6’6” Malik Martin is the younger brother of former RI star Hassan Martin. Rival top 50 recruit 6’2” Jalen Carey has a very disappointing collegiate career, averaging 4.9 ppg over 4 years. Unfortunately he has been a lot better the last 6 games averaging 13 points a game. On the road Rhode Island is 0-4, with a couple bad losses against Georgia State (259 NET) and LaSalle (252 NET). At home they are 4-4 with their best wins against 13-2 U-Mass Lowell (NET 135) and 13-4 Fordham (NET 179). RI is on a 4 game winning streak at home. Great opportunity for Bonnies to get their 1st win on the road with Rhode Island having a 244 NET. A win is far from being assured as Bonnies have already lost to 4 teams with NET over 200 (Canisius, South Dakota State, UB and Northern Iowa). www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/rhode-island/2023.htmlwww.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/schedule/Rhode-Island

Better ball movement on offense and less one on one dribbling would be good for tonight.

Finally we are playing a team that is similar to us in experience. That said, hard for any team to match us in zero returned mins and zero points.
The Rams are a far better rebounding team. A +3.9 to our -0.6. And especially strong on the offensive glass (#2 in conference).
We both score 67 ppg with us better from beyond the arc making 7.1 TREY to their 5.3 making 35% to their 30%.
They cough up the ball at a 14.5 rate. We are #5 in steals to their #11. Hopefully we can create problems to off set their board play.
They get to the stripe a lot and our deficits in points from the line may be a deciding factor in the outcome.

Rhode Island is horrible and we look worse. Banks lifted, Mellouk and Evans and Farell can't come close to a bucket, Rumpel comes in and travels, Venning out with two fouls. You tell me if team is improving or "learning lessons."

Can we spare everyone the pain and just forfeit our remaining road games? Never have seen a team with so much disparity in performances at home vs on the road.
We cannot do simple things like make layups, catch passes, stop shuffling our feet, or take good shots. Oh, and get to the foul line.
Luc is the only starter who has scored.

Thank god for Flowers. We still have a chance. Evans invisible as usual. Hill and Rumpel came in for a minute and out.
