Whatever is going on with this team they have been in every game and when they are shooting good they look unstoppable. Hopefully, they finish top 4 and get the conf bye but for whatever reason they are night and day. Coach and staff know what they are doing and I'm confident come tourney time they will be playing good ball. I don't understand all of the Schmidt criticism b/c the majority of coaches that Bona could bring in would not be able to put this type of talent on the floor. Recruiting to ST. Bona is not easy. Schmidt being an A-10 coach with success has definitely helped bring players here.

There are 361 Division 1 teams - our Bonnie’s currently sit in the top 20% of all teams. Criticizing Schmidt is ridiculous- look where we are compared to much larger schools, school with much bigger budgets and growing NILs.
We all want more but we can also celebrate that we are relevant in a very large pool of teams.
And, i’ll say it again, time to go to 96 teams, top 32 get a bye. Adds just one more game to the process, brings in more schools, more excitement and fun.

Most people, including his peers in the A10, thought this team could make the NCAA Tournament. They aren't remotely close to that, but they could be an NIT club. Obviously they can win or lose against any team in Brooklyn, so there's still a glimmer of hope for a tourney appearance. Schmidt is a very solid coach and one of the better ones in the A10. Nothing wrong with holding this club to higher standards given the talent we have on the roster and the amount of turnover we will experience after this season.

I am so happy there is someone else who feels this way... I am truly and incredibly grateful for Mark Schmidt taking this program from the ashes and building it to where it is today. That being said, the team three years ago and this team are both NCAA-caliber teams... MS has hit a plateau... not saying that he won't make a run in Brooklyn this year, but the last few years have been disappointing. Mark is a phenomenal recruiter, and while he has a playbook with 1000 plays, his Xs and Os are questionable at times, and I'm probably being nice when I state that. All that said, Go Bona's!

To be in the top 5 most years is an accomplishment for a coach at ST. Bona. You know how many years they were really horrific? I watched some very bad teams. Wait and see-if they don't find a good replacement the program will be in BIG TROUBLE. One bad hire could set a program like this back many many years. Schmidt bringing in talent is half the battle-Other coaches may struggle with that obstacle. Just be happy this team competes year in and year out. So yaah - LET's Go Bona's

“That’s one thing I learned from being here this year. It’s great to be a Bonnie.”

This is a forum. There will be criticism. Some is justifiably. I, like many others, feel Schmidt is a great person, an excellent coach and was masterful in resurrecting our program.
That being said his teams have underachieved in two of the last 3 seasons. That is fact. Having a nice run in the NIT does not erase the disappointment of not making the Big Dance. The Lofton-Adaway team rose to #16 in the polls which was remarkable — yet there is no NCAA banner to show for it. The inconsistency of play was maddening at times … great in Charleston and bad the next week. Great wins down the stretch but horrible loss to SLU in the A10 tourney.
This year’s team is more of the same. We have as much or more talent, experience and depth as the 2022 team but still the inconsistent play — especially on offense which is our coach’s hallmark — is hard to explain. Yes there still is time to make a run.
Schmidt deserves a ton of credit for the past. He has adapted well to the crappy new rules of college basketball. He reloads the roster nicely. But that doesn’t give him or the players a lifetime exemption to criticism on this fan board.
Just need the facts and examples to back any criticism or it is just malice.
