He had a big offensive rebound late in the second half, too. But I think like others, I view his season as a pretty big disappointment thus far. His 3PT% is now under 30%. Assa’s progression has been slow and his role on offense is lesser than last year. What bothers me is his lack of fundamentals on defense. He is off balance. He has trouble fighting off bigger guys like Cross in the post. He really is not a 4. Adaway was a smaller 4 but he was built like a linebacker and is much stronger than Assa. If rebounding is his strong point then Barry makes more sense than Assa since he grabs twice as many boards per 40 minutes and provides more steals and energy. I like Assa but would rather see him as a shooter off the bench with Banks. Barry is the real deal. We won’t see his total value until he plays at least 25+ minutes a game. For what it's worth, Barry had the huge punch out in final seconds, leading to Venning dunk. Pure instinct play.
Luc was so bad again last night that Schmidt pulled him after two minutes and never returned, with woeful Banks as backup. Yet Schmidt was fine starting him for 4 games. Probably cost us at least one game.
Not so fun fact: Banks has shot over 30% from field exactly twice in past 13 games.

Sometimes I wonder if people know anything about basketball Assa was the leading rebounder in a game against the leagues top rebounding team Rebounding in the 2nd half was why we were able to come back and win that one. But yeah “where was he?” FG%: 38% 3-FG%: 30% FT%: 69% (29 total FT's for a starter playing the 4 - 29 total FT's after 22 games) 6.8 ppg Rebounding at 5.6 per game - very respectable and certainly comes up with some huge boards. He's behind a guard who's playing the 3 undersized by over 1 reb per game. Essentially Barry has the same avg. per game playing 7 less mins per game. But OK. I'm rooting for #2! Had expectations that he was THE difference maker this year that would take us up a level or two. That has not transpired. Still time left this season to make that impact. Go Bonas! All good, I get it. A bit of a sophomore slump in terms of shooting. In the long run it could be a good thing for his future as he is forced to build other parts of his game, rebounding, defense, dribbling. Last year he was primarily a spot shooter. And at 40+% it was eye popping. His form is still good so I think it will come back. By the time he's a senior he could be an all A10 player

Buy Schmidt out and make Gregmitch the coach? Does he even enjoy the games? Negative at all times. he dislikes players and coaches. Why continue to watch and comment if you hate the team so much? He and his ilk make this board unreadable.

Completely agree with all of this. I think for this specific team, Barry is the better fit at the 4. I think for the next 2 years, I’d love to see them paired together at the 3-4. I actually think both on the court at the same time would open a lot of possibilities. This isn’t a negative on Assa. This is a “play the cards your dealt” argument.

He has a beautiful stroke and I’m confident he’ll play a huge role in this program over the next 2 years. But let’s not kid ourselves, this isn’t a “bit of a sophomore slump”. This is 22 games. It’s a net negative offensively right now. You can’t be a floor spacer / stretch 4 and shoot at 29%. If anyone wants to say I’m too negative, I’d like to know what line of work you’re in. In sports, you get a report card every night. There’s no running from it. Now to be fair, I’d bet a few dollars he will shoot higher than 29% in the final 10 or so games. But there’s no guarantee and there’s no argument that he’s hurting us offensively right now.

I would not like to see them paired at 3-4 because it would hurt the team offensively. Both guys have deficiencies. Asa seems slow and unable to create his shot and he needs work his defense. He has a knack for getting rebounds. Barry is a disrupter on defense. Handles the ball well and is good in the open floor. He needs to develop a move to the rim and a mid range game to be an asset on offense.

Bonnies gain nothing at NET (69) despite win--while UMass gains one (89).....

Buy Schmidt out and make Gregmitch the coach? I am sure we could outbid Little Sisters of the Poor for his services.

Still glowing from the way we finished out the final 2 mins. Up 1 with CHAD making both FTs to go up 3 with 23 secs to play. Then our D forced COHEN into a TREY with the hope he would draw a foul from CHAD who avoided COHEN jumping into him like a matador. That led to the thrilling tip out by BARRY toward half court where MIKA won the race to the ball and passed to a streaking CHAD ahead of everyone for the dunk and 1.
Perfect pass from MIKA was made with 8 secs left. CHAD received it well and finished without putting it on the floor using two long strides for the flush. Beautifully executed to ensure the win.
Having watched that exciting play many times the jubilation on the bench was precious.
The more times I watch the sequence, the more I wonder would it have been more prudent for MIKA to have kept possession himself to be fouled on his way to the rim with 4 secs left. The potential for a CHAD turn over handling the the ball while running full speed at the end of the game was real.
But the actual ending was far more exciting due to their perfect execution.

What an incredible testament to all the hard work Chad must have done to get himself in the physical condition to be able to sprint down the floor and make that play and to have earned the trust of his teammate Mika to make that perfect pass to him.
