The school is often referred to as St. Bonnies. How many time have I been at a tournament and someone asks, where is St. Bonnies? It's quite unique.p But on the few national televised games with new announcers, how often do you hear:”What’s a Bonnie?” To me, that’s not cool. I was at the NCAA tournament game in 2012 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville against Florida State. Somebody tapped me on the shoulder and asked me what’s a Bonnie. I replied you’ll know soon enough just at the end of the game. He tapped me again and said you’re right, I know.

ceharv, I don't remember all of the specific details, but you've caught the gist of the matter. Tribal elders were not bothered by the matter but younger Senecas became increasingly so. In any event, it would have had to go at some point. FSU are still the Seminoles because the Seminole tribe specifically OK'ed it. Perhaps the name "Senecas" might have gotten approval from the Nation, but I doubt it. The generic "Indians" wasn't going to cut it with the NCAA.
Others here can, and I'm sure will, argue the politics of the matter. For me, that ship has sailed. I've never particularly liked "Bonnies", but as others have correctly pointed out, its use goes back at least 60 years or more. I've learned to live with it.

Is the court and all the signage in the RC and field logos going to replaced now that we have a new look?

Well, St Bonaventure sits on the banks of the Allegheny River. How about, River Wolves? It’s a bit unique and they would not have to change the logo.
BTW-this coming from a guy over this past week who bought the new Bonnies gear at the sports locker.

The only thing inconvenient about the name Bonnies, is that my spell checker always wants to change it to Bunnies.

Olean has a lot of black squirrels. We could the St Bonaventure Black Squirrels A wolf/bonnie is more feared than a squirrel. Also, most likely you can't name teams black. Especially with squirrels. Biologists estimate that the black squirrel is unusually rare with only one squirrel in 10,000 wearing the dusky coat. This mutant of the gray squirrel resides primarily in northern climates. Most people in the United States have not seen a black squirrel b/c they are rare. You have issues goldie. You probably get called squirrelly from time to time. just joking-don't get all offended and upset.

I never thought I'd miss threads about hot dog length and bringing back football...but this one has taken a turn.

There is lots of oil up in those hills right? We could be the St. Bonaventure Oilers and bring back that cool looking Houston Oilers color scheme
Maybe a famous local oilman who owns a famous local football and hockey team would be more interested in helping out with a name like that

Well! As long as you bring it up I ate at the famous Texas hot in wellsville this morning..of course most Bonnie’s never get there because they suffer from leaving Allegany anxiety..But the breakfast was great even sans Texas. Hots And nastalgia abounds Wellsville retains an air o Norman Rockwell Americana
The oil man has supported hockey at Penn state , maybe at ub too. He had offices once in Allegany, but don’t think he left any donations around here.

Those texas hots need to be pretty good to entice anyone on campus to make that jaunt maybe they are? heck that's an idea, we could be the St. Bonaventure Texas Hots! It sounds pretty cool and would confuse people into thinking we are in Texas
