I hope I am not just being dense, but I am still uncertain what the waiver means, and who approved it. I don’t see any official reference to Noah being able to play, even in Unfurled’s post. What was waived? I hope this refers to some rule being waived (that is, not being enforced) that if not waived would have required Noah to red shirt this year, but I don’t see that explained anywhere, although several posters here seem to assume that is what it means. Am I missing something? I really want the OTH beat writer to dive into this and provide a complete explanation of the process. (Damn, that’s why I subscribe to the paper, certainly not to have to navigate the paper’s almost unusable website - could they make the process of ‘Xing’ out of ads and reading actual stories more difficult and frustrating?). So come on, OTH, get into the job of researching exactly what’s going on and what it means and reporting on it to you subscribers.

OTH definitely needs an improvement, especially with their web page When a player is ruled ineligible, his/her school can file for a waiver for immediate eligibility. The document below provides more information, one such criteria is international academic track, which may have come to play here. It appears according to sbunfurled they approved the waiver for Bolanga to receive immediate eligibility. But I agree it would be nice to see it reported in other outlets as well. Not a ding on unfurled, but Twitter is a mess these days. The billionaire South African ruined it, so it is hard to believe anything on there. fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/IEW/Directive.pdf

KC gold - Thank you for providing the specific rule. Man, it has been over a decade since I have had to deal with analyzing that type of statutory language and I am badly out of practice and frankly don’t miss it, but here goes > It is apparent that Noah did not present with the typical credentials to be allowed to play immediately as a first year player, but the rule provides for schools to apply for a waiver of the disqualification rule for one of several reasons, One of the grounds is set forth in subsection e. of section 4. The subsection applies to players with an “International Academic Track,” so presumably one that does not match the typical U.S. academic track that the rule is undoubtedly written to provide the test for immediate eligibility - which would be graduation from an accredited U.S. High School. So assumedly Bonas, having been through this before with another foreign player (I forget who that was) was able to correctly analyze the waiver requirements and conclude that Noah fell within them and would likely be granted a waiver under section 4(e.). I don’t personally know, but presumably Noah met the requirement for the equivalent of high school graduation in France, which have been determined in previous cases to satisfy the typical U.S. requirements and are thus entitled to a waiver of the disqualification rule. If anyone wants to provide a different and better analysis, please do so. As I mentioned above, I am out of practice in this crap. But the bottom line is that at least I am now much more comfortable in believing that Noah will be eligible to practice AND PLAY, without fear of his doing so being brought into question and the school not having the documentation needed to show the school’s decision was correct (and having a critical decision-maker saying “ I told the staff the kid did not meet our internal admission requirements,” or words to that effect) as happened with you know who, back you know when.
Chuck I recall you posted above that you were planning to attend more practices and provide one of your valuable observation reports about them before the Alfred scrimmage. I suggest/request that if you see signs that it appears Noah is participating in practices in a way where it appears he is being prepared for playing a starting or key reserve role, please alert us to that observation in advance of your more complete report, as it would provide more support for the conclusion he is eligible to play now, as I think it would be odd for the staff to have him practice in that way if he was not eligible to play this year.

Ceharv, I appreciate the effort there, but I think you’re overthinking this one. Regardless of what you or anyone thinks about X, it doesn’t change that it’s probably the only platform we have as Bonnies fans to get news. And Unfurled is now the only “person” that seems to cover this beat. OTH is a mess, but it’s hard to blame a paper of that size in a city of that size.
Unless we see something entirely different, I have no reason to think Bolanga won’t be eligible for CSUN. Would be no reason for Unfurled to have said otherwise.

Do you even know what fal is? You are an internet troll. Do you even know what you're talking about? I've been here for 20 years. You've been here only a year or so. When you first started posting I thought you were a trouble maker and troll. That's pretty obviously the case. Other long time posters have made the same remarks about you and they're right. Sad.

Reading all this makes me happy I leave out any political or social commentary from my posts. Can anyone here resist taking the bait? Or how about just agreeing to disagree and sparing everyone else the useless back and forth? No one is keeping score, you know.
