IMHO We have too many players. Schmidt won't play a bunch of these guys, and he won't give them time to grow. We have all these great recruits and many will not play and many more will leave after this year. I would also like to remind people that Schmidt sets his lineup by who plays defense and not who can score.

Sorry vodorr, I can’t agree. If the price to pay for having a large number of great players is that some will choose to leave, I am okay with paying that price. The more great players the better, not the worse, IMO. even if that involves increased uncertainty. And maybe we ought to see them play before we call anyone “great.”

PENALTY FLAG for excessive use of the word “great” by several posters. IMO we have zero proven “great” players. I’m sure our coaches will be the first to admit that.
Council had an excellent NCAA tourney last season and is a solid player. Several guys were highly-rated recruits a few years back and will be decent A10 players at the very least.
Noah and others have potential to be great Bona players but let’s be realistic. No one but Noel and two redshirts were in the program last year.
The roster is deep. There’s some nice talent but we have our deficiencies … and the A10 is going to be top-heavy with a number of top 30/40 teams nationally. Are we going to be at that level?
Last pre-season I was very impressed with the roster Schmidt put together (and excited). We had a few very good if not near-great individuals. Yes won 20 games but there was plenty of disfunction and issues. The talent seldom gelled so no one was great.
I’m hoping for great team chemistry, defense, coaching and toughness this season. And more consistent effort and performances. Most of that was missing much of last season.

I like that few slots are promised and everyone on this roster has a chance to win the starting jobs

We looked so good on paper and so inconsistent on the court. I think our biggest issue, in retrospect, was that our point guard situation was a mess. As Schmidt himself states, it is really important to have a PG that reflects him because they have the ball in their hands so often in our offense. Instead we had two PG's who were disgruntled, one because he wasn't playing and the other because he apparently disagreed with the coaching philosophy (at least that's what I think it was). I think that soured the entire team and killed our chemistry. Hopefully the PG's this year can lead this team and help us match your last paragraph with increased chemistry, energy and toughness. I also think with Noel's steadiness and excellent demeanor he will help quietly guide this team. If we get those two things I think we will have a team that we will enjoy watching!

Interesting dynamics on the court this year, 2 captains, NOEL BROWN & MELVIN COUNCIL Jr, one is very out going while the other is more quiet.

Bigcat - You gave me a flashback to my freshman News-writing and Reporting class with Dr, Jandoli. At the start of one of our classes, he asked us what the most overused word was in newspaper stories. As a clue, he suggested it was primarily in Sports “reporting.” (I am not sure he thought of writing for the Sports section as real reporting but I think by 1971 he recognized many of us were interested in it. I can’t recall if anyone answered the question before he revealed the most overused word was “great.” Noting it had become a generic substitute for more descriptive terms. II am not sure why I remember that but I do and in my legal writing, I made a point of avoiding use of the word. Anyway, thanks for the flashback and I fully agree no one on the team has yet demonstrated an ability to play at that level. We look to have some intriguing guys with solid potential, but let’s let them get on the court before characterizing their game.

Thanks KC! I am hearing that Noah is the best 3 pt shooter on the team, but just outside the starting 5. Apparently loaded with potential but just needs to refine his game a bit. He will get plenty of minutes due to his shooting touch and will hopefully develop into even more. As we appear to be desperate for reliable 3 pt shooters this is really great news as we approach the new season! Since Noah will most likely be the team's best 3 point shooter, maybe we should give him the nickname "Noah's Arc".

We'll find out soon enough if Noah is worthy of that nickname.
All who are on the preseason practice roster are in the hall of good; after all they're on the court. Only time will tell whether several are promoted to the hall of very good or even great. Some may fall to the hall of ok, the hall of meh, or heaven forbid the hall of never was.

Twitter sucks. Many people post "bullshit" for entertainment. Keyboard warriors, like Bonadbandwagon where you can hide behind the curtain. X is an open freedom forum in which all views are respected, if you dont like what is posted then dont read the posts, but do not take away folks freedom of speech. Censorship has no place in the American Republic under the First Amendment. Its great to exchange viewpoints and healthy too, especially on D1 College sports. Do you subscribe to the National Inquire, too?

What sucks as a fan is we may never get to see all of these players on the court this season.Coach will have all players learn his system but how many will return? Every year we have the same discussion. People speculate about how this team is the “deepest” Schmidt has ever had. Like it or not, we do not have 13 players that are A10 caliber. The actual number is probably around eight or so. Schmidt always takes a flier on a couple of guys and ultimately, it doesn’t work out. The overwhelming majority of players that transfer out under Schmidt have gone to lower levels, and rarely are close to elite at their new level. Not a bad strategy, but let’s not knock Schmidt for his lack of desire to play 12 or 13 guys. No team in the A10 does that on a regular basis. If a player can’t crack Schmidt’s rotation this year, it means they are either too green or they aren’t cut out for A10-level basketball.

This is so true. Guys that leave often transfer to lower levels and rarely succeed. Brockington is one of the few that left and did very well. However, he didn't leave b/c of playing time. I can't think of many others that have moved on that Schmidt didn't give a chance. Alejandro Vasquez is playing this season for his final year. Seems like he left 8 years ago.
