I was kinda surprised when the OOC sched came out to see Mansfield on the schedule at all, let alone this far into the season. First, they are the Mountaineers, but are not to be confused in the hoops world with West Virginia. Second, they are 1-3, losing at or near home to Point Park, a Piitsburgh school that at least has a decent history and reputation as a D1 program and a 40 point loss To Clafin University, a school I never heard of before. Then they played two games at home, first a two point loss to Penn State. No not that Penn State, but Penn State-Schuylkill (a PSU branch campus that I didn’t know had their own athletic programs, followed by a two point win over D’Youville. So Wednesday in the RC will be their first true road game. I don’t think any further analysis is needed but I invite anyone who wants to go deeper into their roster and/or coaching staff to do so. Putting it succinctly, we should come away from this fairly solidly at 5-0. Yes I know that’s bad thinking and a jinx but I don’t care.

Good opportunity to work on some things, and get the 6-10 players some QT

Would love to see Noah Bolanga have a breakout moment/game on Wednesday. I can see he has the talent, just needs a confidence builder. Seeing a few go through the net could be just what the doctor ordered. Would also like to see Miles rose get some minutes. Ideally, this game will be over at halftime.

Pinnum - you are correct and thanks for the correction. I totally forgot they were NAIA for a long time (hell, I forget there was an NAIA). The point I wanted to make, but messed up, was that the school focused on hoops and had some success as I recall. The sports media in Pittsburgh regularly reported on their teams on the rare occasions when they took their eyes off Pitt.

I have no idea why we are playing this game. If I was a season ticket holder I’d feel jipped having to pay for this

So, my two cents - start Rose, Florian(sp?) and a few other guys on the bench to see how they do - then sub them out as needed

Normal rotation in first half and maybe even to start the second half. Then get some other guys playing time in the last 10-15. Does anyone know how this game is counted? I know it doesn’t count for Tournament purposes, but if a guy like Kaba plays, does he lose his capability to redshirt? And I guess, while we’re at it, did Rose lose a season of eligibility last year because of the 1 game played?

The game is a game. All stats count. However, it will not factor into the ratings, rankings or tourney selection resume — win or lose. It’s one less data point.
I believe last year we played one less game than the max. So it would be the same situation.
At least when we play crummy D1 teams it gives us a chance to improve our Net and KenPom numbers. Not the case with Mansfield. It obviously also hurts our strength of schedule.

The Bonnies are 5-1 all-time in regular season games against Mansfield. The last regular season meeting was in 1947 when the Mountaineers scored their only win in the series, 71-54. The schools met six times between 1940-47.
More recently, the two schools played an exhibition game every year between 2009 and 2015 with the Bonnies winning each year.
Why are we wasting a game playing Mansfield?

Because Duke cancelled their trip to Olean at the last minute and we had to fill in.

What gets me is there are 9 other D1 teams, including some regional schools, playing non-D1 teams tonight too. Why didn't we just schedule with them and both of us avoid the D2 game? It would be better to be playing St. Peter's, St. Francis, Lehigh or Holy Cross tonight
