Maybe she should just cast a spell on the University.

To me this is trash and some of the blame has to fall on SBU simply because someone like this never should have been hired in the first place. If you work for a private institution you should understand that you may have to adhere to certain values they want to promote. As such I don't see this as a violation of this woman's civil rights. No one is guaranteed a promotion in the constitution. You just can't be denied one based on your gender, race, religion, etc. If this happened in a public setting then sure, maybe...but when you work for a Private Franciscan University that wants to promote those values you can't do or say whatever you please. If that institution feels that you spouting off about being a witch or promoting you to a new position isn't in the best interest of their core message then that institution should have the right to do that. If this woman wants to tell everyone how great wiccans are then she should go work for SUNY Albany.

I’m with you but you couldn’t be more wrong in suggesting a private university is immune to penalty if they made an employment decision based on religion. It looks like the admin lacked tact, awareness and smarts every step of the way with this woman. Unbelievable we had people like this working at the university in a leadership position.

She has no place whatsoever at a Catholic Franciscan University. This is just mind boggling. What administration hired her?

IMO Bonaventure screwed the pooch on this. Once you personalize H.R. stuff over religion, you're in the wrong. The fact that she's Wiccan shouldn't matter.
Lets not be the Catholic version of Bob Jones University.
If there was a problem about her work performance so be it---but to turn it into an issue over her faith is wrong. Bonas should move VERY quickly to minimize the bad PR this will generate.

I know this is totally none of my business, and I feel like Gladys Kravitz for even commenting, but in my limited dealings with Pauline Hoffmann, she was quite professional and seemed to know what she was doing as the Jandoli Dean.

And furthermore, why is this topic being even discussed on the Sports portion of this board? Is part of her law suit the fact that TK started men's lacrosse, but wasn't in favor of Quidditch?

This presupposes that she actually WAS let go because she is a Wiccan woman. Perhaps enrollment in the J School was way down under her watch. Perhaps there were other issues. Seems like the new Dean has done wonders in his short tenure.

The people who sit in Hopkins should have kept it to work performance, not her personal life.

Seems like the new Dean has done wonders in his short tenure. She was likely let go for those reasons. It’s just beyond dumb when you do things like singling her out by signing papers in regards to her “religion”. She has no case if Bona admins ignore her for a year and just get rid of her for the obvious decline in communications enrollment and lack of innovation or progress. The new dean is clearly a better fit. This is only a story/case because the admin didn’t acknowledge absolute basic HR practice.

Again , all based on her claims. We don't know what the admin did or didn't do.

I just hope her claims are untrue, but I tend to believe at least a good chunk of them are more or less as she says they are. If the situation is truly as she claims it is, then the handling of it is beyond shortsighted.
There's a multitude of ways in which you can legally handle this situation properly while also making clear your discontent for one of your high ranking faculty members promoting witchcraft at your catholic university. If it was handled the way she claims it was, it sounds like it was done so without a shred of strategic planning.
