For what it's worth, Shemani Fuller is listed 6'9". To me he's a lot like Kareem Reid from Putnam, but I think Shemani is a much better shooter. So much of this is speculation but if we were able to sign Mellouk or Fuller I would be absolutely ELATED. These are our kind of guys, worker bees, this is a classic case where the "top" programs sign four star guys and five star guys. We sign guys with talent, but our staff identifies that young man with the inner drive that makes the whole star rating system moot. Look who has signed on Adams, Coulibaly, Ndjock-Tadjore, Durosinmi, Brown and Saizounou and yet to be named. We can't wait to see these guys start to reach their potential.

I just saw on Kidtrell Blockers Twitter that he said after a long weekend with family that he has decided to open up his recruitment which may mean that he wants to go to a school closer to home so it’s easier for his family to come to games and to see them more often...just a guess! mobile.twitter.com/kidtrell_4?lang=enBlocker to Suny Amherst

Mellouk is still out there, correct? Any word of him visiting anywhere, or receiving any other offers? The lat I heard, Maine offered but I can't believe he'd settle there - not a hoops school.

Attached is Chuckie Maggio's article "Many directions Bonnies can go with their final available scholarships." Following is brief summary of interesting article. Chuckie mentions Bonnies "has two available scholarships with over two months until the 2021 fall semester begins, and the coaching staff has no obvious needs to meet. The Bonnies intend to fill at least one of those vacancies, a source says, and can realistically welcome the best uncommitted player or best fit they discover." Chuckie lists how PG, shooting and post depth are still possible needs. Chuckie also mentioned Anouar Mellouk "Saizonou acknowledged last month that he and Mellouk have discussed the possibility of teaming up at SBU. Mellouk was receptive, he noted, but holds six other offers according to Verbal Commits." Chuckie finishes article with "The Bonnies can afford to wait patiently as Mellouk and other prospects mull their decisions, as the transfer portal continues to gain entrants even in the middle of June. Anything this summer, for this team, is an added bonus as it seeks a deep NCAA Tournament run for the first time in over 50 years." pickinsplinters.com/2021/06/13/maggio-many-directions-bonnies-can-go-with-their-final-available-scholarships/

Schmidt in his podcast last month stated “probably won’t use up all 13 scholarships, we never do. Then with transfer portal, I think it makes it more likely Schmidt will be saving the 13th scholarship only for a player that will be a difference maker.
-- Karim Coulibaly is my example of a difference maker. -- As Chuckie says "What do you get the team that has everything?" It is a good question. It makes me wonder about the source comment "can realistically welcome the best uncommitted player or best fit they discover." Best fit for a team that doesn't have an obvious need? I think the best uncommitted player is by far the most likely direction for the 13th scholarship.
Of course considering Schmidt has never used the 13th scholarship and also said in the podcast “especially now a days, more players you have on the bench the more guys you are going to have being unhappy.” The most likely scenario is Schmidt doesn't use the scholarship in his back pocket. It would take something really good for Schmidt to use his valued 13th scholarship.

From a depth perspective, a big man should be the target with the likelihood that Osun doesn't return for a fifth year. Even if the thought is that Durosimini is the prospect we think he is, we should still be looking to add someone who can play some minutes at the 4/5. Anouar Mellouk and Shemani Fuller are a couple of names that would seem to fit that mold, though both seem to have gone quiet.

Chuckie Maggio says a need is "adding another player capable of shooting 35 percent or greater from deep, would offer the Bonnies another option when their starters face slumps from deep range." This year Bonnies had just Dom (39.1%) and Jaren (38.1%) shoot over 35% from 3s. Brett Rumpel would fit this need as he shot 38% from 3s this year at Seton Catholic. www.maxpreps.com/leaders/basketball/,scoring/new+york/stat-leaders.htm

My gut feeling on Coulibaly was that he he would be a grinder lunch pail guy. Am I missing something? Difference maker? I thought he would be a Josh Ayeni type player no lift.

Hopefully Coulibaly brings more talent and more self control then Josh.

Hopefully Coulibaly brings more talent and more self control then Josh. He will for sure. They really aren't comparable! This is no knock on Ayeni because people tend to forget he was young & inexperienced, thrust into a starting role when he was here. He was a frosh & soph here on teams with high expectations and no bigs. He was also relatively new to the game having never picked up a basketball until 2011, just 5 years before he came here - Coulibaly is coming here essentially as a college junior. He has already played 48 games in the ACC of all places. He has played & started games at the highest level. He was conference player of the year in prep school where he lead his team as high as a no.1 national ranking. Coulibaly has also played internationally, playing in multiple FIBA championships. He is going to be way, way more experienced here than Ayeni was. Lastly, their games aren't the same. Coulibaly is known for his defense, we all know that wasn't Ayeni's game
