AC Curran was recruiting him back at Bishop Ludden HS. Head Coach Gallagher Driscoll always looks fondly at Bona and would have provided good vibes about SBU. Last summer MIKA spent time working out at Bishop Ludden HS as he has stayed close with Gallagher Driscoll. Coach was most likely a positive factor in MIKA's decision to wear the Brown and White.

Will Schmidt take one more? Perhaps someone that would redshirt? Couple years ago, Schmidt gave an interview answering why he never uses the 13th scholarship. Schmidt stated there is just so much playing time available. The 13th player on the bench is going to be frustrated with their PT. This is why he avoids using the last scholarship. Above is especially true today with the transfer portal. Do not see Schmidt using last scholarship this year. Bonnies have solid depth and players who can play different positions. Tentative depth chart Center - Chad, Noah and Melian PF - Yann, Barry and Duane SF - Charles and Moses/Miles SG - Daryl and Moses/Miles PG - Mika and Kyrell You can't forget about Schmidt "saving one in the back pocket" in case a player becomes available that is too talented to pass up. Then again he hasn't used the scholarship in his back pocket in his 16 years at Bona. |

I would not bet against it. Different circumstances now that if another 3 or 4 star is available you take him. Depth, protection from the injury bug and a breakout occurs that we were not expecting.You earn your PT in practice and competition allows the cream to rise to the top. If your not getting floor time look in the mirror, the portal isn't going to make you a better player. Work will.

SBU Unfurled had retested the following….
I want to say it was three years ago we recruited Jeremiah as a Chicago hs senior. I want to say that I thought he came on campus for a visit. Really talented young man. Apparently be blew out his Achilles last October. I m guessing he would have to rehab through fall and maybe spring, but a 6’5” tlanted PG with experience would be worth our 13th shipIMO.

With the pretext that this is just me, rubbing a couple of sticks together, meaning that I’ve not seen anything that says we have interest. However I did see that Mohammed Wague, a 6’10” 225 PF, from West Virginia had entered the transfer portal. I seemed to have remembered that we offered Mohammed, who prepped at Scotland and must have spent a year at Harcum in Philly. In his one year at WVU he avg d 4+ ppl. And 3+rpg. I guess it s the allure of the PF, but maybe we ve got that covered with chad having some more versatility. Mohamed did say that he felt the need to test the waters, but wasn’t shutting the door on a return to WVU.

Lucas is intriguing. He is 6'9 with a 6'11 wingspan. Seems willing to take advantage of pro type weight lifting program now available to him. He is similar to Evans but a much better shooter with 3 level offense capability. He is not the rim protector that Melanie is but something of a high level utility player who fills out your roster at 13 or may be sold on a redshirt year. Remember I said intriguing with high potential.

I think saving roster spots is a thing of the past due to the easy portal process as well as NIL. There will be zero loyalty on either side. Better offer- he’s gone. Better player- they’re gone. Sad.

I was at the Bradford airport for a flight just by chance when Lucas landed. Having seen him in person, I just want to say I sure hope he enjoys his visit. I cannot believe he’s an incoming freshman
