Going from VCU to PSU in hoops would be going from the local spotlight in Richmond and VCU to a relatively quiet corner in football crazy Happy Valley. Maybe he wants out of the spotlight or maybe he’s just using the PSU offer to spur VCU and its boosters to up his take-home.

Do you know how much money is pumping through Penn State via TV $ alone? $100M A YEAR. Penn State can be good and has every tool at their disposal to get better. On top of that, you can finish 7th or 8th in the conference and end up with a single-digit seed in the dance. VCU would have been in the NIT with 26 wins despite winning the conference by a wide margin. Yes, this was a DOWN year for the A10, but if you get a chance to coach at a B1G or SEC school, you take it. Penn State is not a basketball school, but it is a HUGE sports school. A ton of kids that go there are from the Philly area and root for the Sixers. If he can string together some good seasons, the support will follow. Unlike a job like Indiana, you don't have to be elite to keep your job there. Make the dance 2-3 times a decade and you will likely keep your job. Seems like a good spot to be in. At the very least, he is doubling his pay, so even if he bottoms out at PSU, he will have double the money and likely a pretty nice buyout should they fire him early. It's not like he will be hard-pressed to find another gig if he gets fired. Grant, Miller, Ford, etc all did the same and ended up in pretty good positions after being spit out of the P5 circuit.

$3 Mill is the offer reportedly. Pedo State going in heavy on Rhoades. I have zero respect for that institution so I hope he declines, but I understand taking that bag

Now there are reports/rumors that Utah State's Ryan Odom is going to take over at VCU, if/when Rhoades leaves.
Odom coached UMBC when they had that miracle victory over Virginia in the tournament and has taken Utah State to the tourney this past season

Ryan Odom will be an outstanding addition to the A-10 coaching ranks. In his 7 years coaching in D-1, he's taken 2 different programs to the tournament, UMBC and Utah ST and VCU will most likely be his third. That is pretty impressive. And he has actually won a game in the tournament, unlike Rhoades. Incredibly, VCU really came out smelling like a rose here.

A great hire for VCU. Odom can keep VCU among the A10 elite.

VCU not only lost its head coach, a number of players, and 4 coaches are joining Rhodes at Penn State. I don't care how good the new guy is and will be, this is massive turmoil!
