Interesting… sign of the times… no story or score I could find on the game in the Buffalo news. Probably due to the fact it is printed in Cleveland now,and deadlines…also no pre game coverage in Monday’s times herald since they dropped the Monday paper. So this board is the best news source in a partial vacuum. Planned to listen on wesb bradford but could not get the exhibitions game. Maybe th Canisius game will get better coverage

Most impressive players from last night. — Chance the MVP of the game and leading scorer with 18 points. Showed he can play small forward or shooting guard. Displayed impressive athleticism, leading team with 9 rebounds. Coming off the bench at 14:07, Chance led the big scoring run in the 2nd half, which was the big difference in the game. Was a solid 4-6 from inside the arc. Whether he knows it or not, Chance game is inside the arc where he excels. Tied with taking most 3s shooting 2-7 from 3s for 28.5%. — Lajae was solid throughout the game. Like JUCO, Lajae does everything. Second leading scorer with 16 points and had 5 rebounds. Showed off his solid defense. A physical and athletic power forward, who can score from underneath and from 3s. — Dasonte was very impressive taking it to the basket. We saw a physical PG, who has a knack at taking it to the basket, which is revealed by him shooting 13 foul shots. — Mike the unsung hero of this game. I expected the games from Chance, Lajae and Dasonte, but was NOT expecting Mike’s big game. He was very impressive with his defense, rebounding in his limited 18 minutes of PT.
Shout out for 2 players. — Noah was part of the big run led by Chance in the 2nd half. Had the 5th best +/- at +6, which is pretty good considering he played just 10 minutes. I hear Noah is having trouble learning the playbook, which is not surprising considering his limited time with the team. Looks a lot more promising than last time I saw him at practice, watching from the sidelines. — Xander looked a lot better than I expected in his 3 and a half minutes. I thought he was going to be a red-shirt, but now it looks like he will be playing this season. I’ll have to watch ESPN+ as it looked like he had a block. Never the less he looked solid for a freshman with his defense.

Agree with CHUCK on MIKE. Also, LAJAE has great form when shooting behind the arc, really squares up his shoulders and great rotation on the ball after the release.

I am concerned about our reliance on the TREY. Tonight 57% of our shots were from deep. Completely agree with above from WGT. Jump shooting is a concern with this team, especially after what we saw in the game against Alfred. Last night team attempted significantly more 3s than 2 point shots (32-23). It does not make sense. Chance had a great game, but he has only increased my concerns for his love of taking the 3 point shot. Chance is great inside the arc, but struggles from shooting it from distance. This is exactly what I've seen summer. Team shot 17.6% from 3s against Alfred and 21.9% last night. Team attempting 32 shots behind the arc should NOT be happening. Just hitting jump shots has been a struggle, so far for this team. There is certainly NO need to extend it out to 3 point range.

NICE RUN - NOAH in now - doing it without Melvin and NOEL. GREAT SIGN - CHANCE, LAJAE, and NOAH on the floor together and running. Looks like a VCU type run ... Above was the big moment of the game. In under 3 minutes, Bonnies went on a 11-2 run and turn a 7 point game into a 16 point lead. It started at 14:21 mark in the 2nd half with Dasonte and Noah replacing Melvin and Jonah. gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2024-25/csun/boxscore/7084

Have we had a player like Lajae Jones here in awhile? Certainly Schmidt has had wings that shoot from the outside and rebound, Dom Welch comes to mind, but Lajae is a big dude

I can be techno challenged, so maybe it was me. But the web radio last night - it would be on for 30 seconds to maybe 2 minutes, then cut out on me. I was listening on my deck, we have very good internet coverage thru the whole house (and deck). Did anyone else have the same issue?

Two quick points from the game last night. One positive, one negative.
- watching Brown last night reminded me about his foul trouble from the year before. His offense is always going to be a plus for us, but if he can’t stay in the floor it won’t matter.
- my favorite thing from the game last night was each time Council got a rebound or an outlet pass, he was running ( and wow was he faster than I thought). It’s only one game, but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen someone do that consistently for the Bonnies. If our offense is going to be a work in progress this season, we need to steal some points on fast breaks and I believe we’ve definitely got the personnel to do that.

When shots are going in we looked very good when missing not so much. Lots of moving parts but Rose looks to be odd man out. Feel for him coach burns his redshirt for a few in minutes in one game last season than sits whole game in opener.

Thoughts from last night:
32 3-point shots? What is going on... It seems our offensive sets could not get any closer to the basket. Maybe they haven't learned Schmidt's system yet, but I would hope that we would have some offensive sets that could get us easier shots.
I like that Bowen was able to drive to the hoop, but it didn't give him any easy shots. He was always fouled, but I would hope when you drive, you are able to get past your man to have a layup. At least once in a while. You can not get an and-one if you are trying to hit a layup with three players around you.
I was really hoping to see Rose last night. He worked hard for Schmidt last year and did not see the court (besides one minute in one game) and he is the odd man out?
Shouldn't Rose know the system better than 10 new players?

Certainly Schmidt has had wings that shoot from the outside and rebound, Dom Welch comes to mind, but Lajae is a big dude Courtney Stockard maybe? He averaged 7 boards per game over two seasons and had super-long arms. His outside shooting was streaky but boy could he carry his team for long stretches. One tough competitor. Lajae could be special. I’m starting to get more excited about the potential of some of these guys.
